Porsche Design's hookah pipe: Emitting fumes stylishly

There is no area that has not been touched by the Porsche Design studio, and now the iconic fashion ideas of the Porsche Design luxury brand are revealed at its best in the brand new Shisha or Hookah pipe. Their new German-made bong-like pipe is inspired from the Hookahs used in Middle-Eastern region and is available at the Porsche’s new shop at Harrods department store in London, Knightsbridge, although the store was sold to a Qatari royal family, which in turn just happens to own 10 percent of Porsche.

This elegant pipe is made of materials such as aluminum, stainless steel and glass combined with TecFlex pipes. The company has used the same material that it uses in the range of luxury writing instruments. This made-in-Germany pipe is not only made with obdurate engineering and innovation but also with a concern of customer’s safety. This Shisha is 55 cm tall and is elegantly crafted with aluminum top and glass bottom that also makes it a collectible item for your living room. There is no clue of price as of now, but we will keep you posted about it.

Pen Type-A: A Minimal Pen

People that live in the Far East have access to a lot of really cool stuff that never makes it way stateside, and we’re not talking Hello Kitty and schoolgirls. Along with sweet kicks and some foreign soil only automobiles, there is a pen that’s well worth importing. It’s called the Pilot Hi-Tec-C and the odds of finding them in the US (even if you’re Nicolas Cage) are quite low. Which is why the design firm CW&T out of Brooklyn decided to improve upon what they think is the perfect disposable pen. Pen Type-A is the result of what we can only assume was countless espresso fueled, late night design meetings. Made out of 304 stainless steel, the sleeve for Pen Type-A doubles as a ruler (cm and inches) and has just enough space to create an effect like a pneumatic cylinder. What that means is that it slides in slow and smooth and makes a cool popping noise when it pops out. $50

Freddy Krueger Final Mortal Kombat DLC Fighter -- Time For A New Nightmare

The MK9 DLC fighters welcome a new kombatant: Freddy Krueger is joining the Mortal Kombat 9 roster as the final Mortal Kombat DLC fighter for the summer. Freddy Krueger will be available August 9 and cost $4.99, or if you thought ahead to buy the Summer Pass, he's free! The walking nightmare on Elm Street (see what I did there?) looks to be a pretty quick and agile fighter, and his brutality certainly fits the Mortal Kombat universe. Want to see him in action? Although the Freddy Krueger fatalities may not be as imaginative or nightmare fueling as some of the scenes in the movies (I will never forget watching a little girl get eaten) they pay an homage to the Krueger legacy in fitting fashion. In Vertebrata, photographer Marc Da Cunha Lopez has placed skeletons – properties of a biology department of Paris university – in different empty spaces and interiors that he captured during previous travels around the world. 

The feeling that stands out from these pictures is one of waiting. A long expectation, full of hopes and dreams that never came true. Thus, these animals naked to the bones become almost humans.

Living and working in Paris, Marc Da Cunha Lopez is a talented photographer sharing his practice between his clients – among them: Playstation, Hermès, Peugeot, Fiat, Canal Plus or Nike – and personal works. Born in 1979, he first studied Biology – what inspired Vertebrata – and then photography in Gobelins and graduated in 2005.

Stadler Form Otto Fan - Niiiiice!

Swiss designer and artist Carlo Borer has created a luxury fan for Stadler Form. The company, founded in Switzerland in 1998, focuses on designer items of practical use, for example air purifiers and heaters. The Otto Fan is adjustable in height, has three different speeds, and is made from African sapele wood and high grade steel. The fan can be bought from the Stadler Form website for the price of $199.99 (£119.88).

Movado Bold Watches Hands-On

I showed you the Movado BOLD a little while ago, here are a few more hands-on shots of this new trendsetter!

There are literally dozens of Movado Bold watches to choose from. The point of the collection is to modernize and hip-ify (just made that word up) the classic and iconic Movado Museum Face watch. Bold watches share a few things in common. First is color - as most of them are colorful. Second is design and material. Bold watches are designed to be less expensive Movado timepieces and so the case is made of a high-quality plastic (some also seem to be in aluminum). Movado calls it polymer or  high-tech composite.

Movado's major claim to fame was the adoption of the Museum Dial (in the 1970s when they bought the rights from Horwitt) watch and making it really popular. The artistic minimalist design is indeed very attractive, but a good example of form over function. Movado continues to play with the Museum Dial design, but since it became super mainstream in the 1990s through today, it is more a continuation of an existing good design than something fresh. So here comes the Bold, a watch that freshens up the often predictable look of the most of the Movado watches we are familiar with. There is an image of one in the article for comparison purposes.

Even though the classic Museum Dial watches aren't my style, I would happily wear a Bold. I really love many of the designs and the (yes, I will say it) bold color schemes. There are two sizes for the Bold available at this time. They are 42mm wide and 36mm wide. The pieces wear large due to the expansive dial. I like how Movado was able to retain the stark look of the pieces while adding textures and other visual interest. There is even a chronograph version in the 42mm wide size.

Revolutio

This simple and modern watch by designer Mickaël Chros presents a new perception on time telling. Minutes and hours are displayed on Revolutio’s rotating rings and are powered by a standard watch engine. The magnetic locking system is perfectly discreet. I’m really digging the center-less design- the loop, versus the standard circle, is an interpretation of eternity and reminds that time has no real beginning or end.

A rare 1923 Leica 0-Series camera is estimated to fetch over half a million dollars

Well-known photographic auction, Westlicht, will be staged May 28 in Vienna, Austria and have unveiled a few samples of what to expect in its Leica section. Taking the chunk of the limelight will be the 1923 Leica 0-Serie Nr.107. Only 25 of these cameras were produced and is the only camera known with ‘Germany’ engraving on the top plate. It was also apparently the first Leica camera to be exported as records indicate a delivery to New York for patent applies. The piece is estimated to fetch between 350,000 and 450,000 Euros. The auction will also have the 2010 Leica M9 Titan Prototype which is a fully-working prototype no.2 of the Titanium edition designed by Walter de’Silva. It has an analog viewfinder, one of 500 cameras equipped with LED illumination of the bright-line frames in the viewfinder and complete with the matching Titanium Summilux 1.4/35mm. it is estimated to fetch between 35,000-45,000 Euros.
